There is no clash of civilisations but the aftermath of gender apartheid and state sexual repressions by dictator regimes that are enabled by colonialism and sponsored by neocolonialism.

On the 13th of June 2023 at 11.00 am, we will gather in front of the embassy of Egypt in Ljubljana in a stand for human rights to end state sexual repression and gender apartheid in Egypt and worldwide.

Colonialism and imperialism enhanced state sexual repression and gender apartheid in its former colonies. Until the 19th century, we had the cross-dressing in Egypt named “Khawalat”, which was a pleasant ceremony of gender-fluid and liberated performances that celebrated homosexuality. French novelist Gustave Flaubert wrote a letter to a friend in 1850 in which Flaubert wrote how “he was shocked by the overall normality and acceptance of homosexuality in Egypt”, noting that the subject was freely admitted and discussed in public. Unfortunately, with the imperialist colonialism by France and the British Empire Colonization in Egypt, the “Khawalat” became a derogatory word reflecting homophobia and transphobia; it is a fact that British Empire Colonization enabled the legal criminalisation of homosexuality in Egypt.
Now we are here to make it loud and clear that we will not forget, we will not forgive, and we will hunt all dictator, sexually repressive and gender apartheid regimes down.
Today we stand to honour the legacy of Sarah Hijazi, an LGBTQIA+ and human rights activist who was arrested, raped and sexually assaulted in the prison of the current dictator regime of al Sisi in Egypt. Sarah was arrested and tortured in the prisons of this repressive regime because she raised the rainbow flag in a concert in the streets of Cairo. After her release in 2018, she suffered from depression, post-trauma syndromes and panic attacks; afterwards, she obtained asylum in Canada, but the regime’s repressive media did not leave her alone. The repressive regime’s media channels continued the sponsored homophobic and transphobic hate speech.

Sarah took her own life on the 14th of June 2020 with a suicide note:
"To my siblings – I tried to survive and failed; forgive me. To my friends – the experience was harsh, and I am too weak to resist it; forgive me. To the world – you were cruel to a great extent, but I forgive.".

Thank you, Sarah. May you rise and rise and rest in peace and power; On the 13th of June 2023,  we announce THAT WE WILL NOT FORGIVE, AND WE WILL NOT FORGET because of the many people who are now behind bars under the repressive and dictator regime of Al SISI in Egypt, this embassy and the repressive dictator regime in Egypt is a product of British Empire and France colonialism and a current neo-colonial instrument in the geographical area so-named and so-called as the Middle East.

Power to the people in Egypt who are striving for justice, equality and peace; Power and justice to all current and former prisoners of conscience and to all current and former prisoners due to gender apartheid and state sexual repression in Egypt, of whom we mention a few, but we won’t forget all:

• Justice and freedom for Amal Fathy, an Egyptian democracy activist and human rights defender. She is a former April 6 Youth Movement activist and member of the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms. She continues to be detained under house arrest by the Egyptian authorities since January 2019 for speaking out about sexual harassment in Egypt.

• Freedom for Hoda Abdel Moneim; Hoda Abdel Moneim is a human rights lawyer who works on documenting human rights abuses, including incidents of enforced disappearance.

• Justice and freedom for Patrick George Zaki, a gender and human rights researcher at the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR). He was arrested in 2020, beaten and threatened by rape while investigating his work.

• Justice and freedom for Manar Samy, a social media star who was arrested with accusations of spreading immortality.

The Misogynist dictator regime of Al Sisi in Egypt is prisoning women over their right of choice, as simple as choosing how they dress, talk and their state of just being.

We conclude with the powerful words of the Egyptian writer and activist Mona El-Tahawy:
Why do those men hate us? They hate us because they need us, they fear us, they understand how much control it takes to keep us in line, to keep us good girls with our hymens intact until it’s time for them to fuck us into mothers who raise future generations of misogynists to forever fuel their patriarchy. They hate us because we are at once their temptation and their salvation from that patriarchy, which they must sooner or later realize hurts them, too. They hate us because they know that once we rid ourselves of the alliance of State and Street that works in tandem to control us, we will demand a reckoning.”
― Mona Eltahawy, Headscarves and Hymens: Why the Middle East Needs a Sexual Revolution

The program:
We will start at 11.00 by reading the statement in Arabic, followed by the “Khawalat” performance and then reading the statement in English and Slovene. We conclude with an open mic for feminist intersectional chants.
Bring on your intersectional feminist chants and your most “Immoral” outfits!

Egiptu in po vsem svetu.
Kolonializem in imperializem sta okrepila državno spolno zatiranje in spolni apartheid nekdanje kolonije.

represivni mediji niso pustili. Medijski kanali represivnega režima so nadaljevali sponzoriran homofoben in transfobičen sovražni govor.

Sarah si je 14. junija 2020 vzela življenje s samomorilnim sporočilom:
»Mojim sorojence – poskušala sem preživeti in mi ni uspelo; odpustite mi.

Zaključujemo z močnimi besedami egipčanske pisateljice in aktivistke Mone El-Tahawy:
- Mona Eltahawy, Naglavne rute in himene: Zakaj Bližnji vzhod potrebuje spolno revolucijo.

Prinesite svoje intersekcijske feministične pesmi in svoje najbolj "nemoralne" obleke!
